In the Scout Movement, pioneering is the art of using ropes and wooden spars joined by lashings and knots to create a structure. Pioneering can be used for constructing small items such as camp gadgets up to larger structures such as bridges and towers. Pioneering is used to teach practical skills, teamwork and problem solving.
The pioneering project designs and methods described here are not intended to be the only way of doing things. The joy of pioneering is that everything is dependent on the equipment available, the experience of the builder and how you feel on the day.
Mount Melleray has a supply of pioneering spars which are available on a first come first serve basis.
