Lone Patrol’s Welcome in Melleray!

Scouting encourages young people to be independent and to make their own decisions, all the while learning from the process and where is better to do this, only at one of the five National Campsites.

Scout camping is all about young people organizing and planning their own camp and as this can be very daunting for both young people and parents/leaders – We are here to help!

  • Adult Staff always on site if needed
  • Some activities on-site included in the camp fee
  • Hike Routes on our doorstep – Maps can be provided by the Centre at a small cost.
  • Lone Patrol’s can liaise with the Melleray Office staff in the lead up to their stay
  • Parents or Leaders can also contact our office if they have any questions or concerns
  • Links to all timetables for public transport to Melleray is below

If you are going to get public transport to Melleray you will need to go to Dungarvan first and switch buses there to our local link service. Click on the route below to be brought to the transport website for timetables.

Glory Glory Growing Garden

Having successfully completed a FETAC course our participants on the CE Scheme have created a wonderful amenity at the centre.

With a seating area, it is a great spot to unwind. The colour of the flowers and plants draw a wonderful array of insects and birds that can be appreciated.

Should you wish to take a moment to reflect, why not take a seat at our broken hearted flower bed in the centre of the garden. See if you can figure out why we named it the ‘Broken Hearted Flower Bed’!

In early summer our wild flower patch is a sight to behold. Shortly we plan to plant spring bulbs, we encourage groups who attend the centre to avail of this facility by bringing a plant.

Currently we are planting the bank at the Church.

Camp Five 2017 – Sunshine All The Way

The Patrol in Action Series had its final camp of the series in Mount Melleray Scout Centre on 12th July with over 80 Patrols on site and it was a huge success!

The PATROLS IN ACTION series of Camps ONE to FIVE took place on our National Scout Centres in July each year. The camps were run by a core team of Venture Scouts and Rover Scouts together with Adult Scouters in a supporting capacity working together to provide an experience for patrols who were looking to improve their camp skills, who were seeking an experience in working independently as a patrol without the benefit of scouters and their troop as a whole around them. Their Scouters didn’t camp with them.

Day 1

The first day of Camp 5 was the opening ceremony which was held in the church and campsite set up for each patrol. The opening ceremony was the official beginning of Camp 5 and what a way to kick start the week! Working together as a patrol they built their campsite and set themselves up for the camp.

Legacy Project – Patrol Rooms

With the help of Camp 5 and the members of our CE Scheme who have worked extremely hard over the last few weeks, we now have a wonderful facility in our newly refurbished workshops.

We have 4 in total and will be soon kitted out to allow small groups hold meetings and complete activities while visiting the centre. All the units will have a work bench, seating, power and are total weather proof.

These rooms make great areas for small break out groups whether it is Leadership Training, Troop activity or working on some special project.
